New York, New York - Jeep has announced it will unveil the 2008 Grand Cherokee at the New York Auto Show. The new Grand Cherokee features an all-new 4.7-litre V8 engine, refreshed design and numerous premium available amenities.

The new V8 delivers a 24 per cent increase in horsepower, 6 per cent increase in torque and improved fuel economy over the engine it replaces. The new model will be available this fall.

The Grand Cherokee will be available with five engine offerings: the all-new 4.7-litre V8, 3.7-litre V6, 5.7-litre Hemi V8, 3.0-litre V6 diesel, and 6.1-litre Hemi V8 in the Grand Cherokee SRT8.

The new 4.7-litre V8 uses two spark plugs per cylinder, the only Chrysler Group engine to do so other than the 5.7-litre Hemi, and incorporates an increased compression ratio, improved cylinder-head port flow and new combustion system. The engine produces 291 hp and 322 lb-ft of torque, and is flex-fuel capable, able to run on E85 ethanol fuel.

The new Grand Cherokee will also offer Sirius Backset TV, which features three channels of children's television programming, including Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network.

Other features on the 2008 Grand Cherokee include MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System, high-intensity discharge auto-levelling headlamps, rear backup camera, ParkSense rear backup system, rain-sensing wipers, iPod connectivity and 18-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, along with available Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control.
