New York, New York - General Motors will unveil several new vehicles at the New York Auto Show, including V8-powered "Super" premium editions of the Buick Lucerne and LaCrosse (Allure), the refreshed 2008 Cadillac STS, the Chevrolet Trax concept, redesigned Hummer H2 and Saab BioPower 100 Concept.
The 2008 Buick LaCrosse (sold as the Allure in Canada) features a new front fascia, hood and chrome waterfall grille, and has more standard comfort and convenience features. Both it and the Lucerne will be offered in premium, V8-powered trim lines that use the revived Super name.
The 2008 Cadillac STS features refreshed exterior and interior styling, with standard 298 hp V6 engine and several new vehicle technologies, including Intellibeam headlamps that switch from high to low beam when approaching other vehicles, lane departure warning, blind side alert and a head-up display on V6 models. For 2008, the STS will be the first GM vehicle equipped with a new 3.6-litre direct-injected V6 engine.
The Chevrolet Trax minicar, designed at GM's Design Studio in Incheon, South Korea, features a 1.0-litre engine. Chevrolet says it is one of three minicar concepts it will unveil, and will ask the public to vote online as to which concept people prefer.
The 2008 Hummer H2 and H2 SUT feature all-new interiors, 6.2-litre V8 with six-speed automatic transmission, increased towing capacity, and on the H2, a full third row. The new V8 is rated at 393 hp, an increase of about 20 per cent over the previous engine, with improved performance and fuel efficiency. Available comfort and convenience features include a remote starting system, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, navigation system, rearview camera and heated windshield washer fluid.
Making its North American debut is the Saab BioPower 100, which the company calls the first production-based turbo engine optimized for E100 (pure bioethanol). The vehicle uses a modified 2.0-litre turbo production gasoline engine from the current Saab 9-5 range, with horsepower increased from 150 hp to 300 hp. The Saab BioPower 100 Concept is presented as an evolution of the Saab 9-5 SportCombi and features revised front and rear lights, 19-inch "turbine" alloy wheels and white leather interior.
