New York, New York - Subaru has unveiled the redesigned 2008 Tribeca and its new 3.6-litre horizontally-opposed engine at the New York Auto Show.

"The new 2008 Tribeca is the result of feedback we received from customers," says Katsuhiro Yokoyama, president, chairman and CEO of Subaru Canada. "With powerful new styling, a new, larger-displacement 3.6-litre H6 engine, and improved performance and fuel efficiency, the new 2008 Subaru Tribeca delivers a unique balance of style, safety and functionality in a progressive SUV form."

The Tribeca, which drops its previous B9 designation, features an integrated grille with chrome spread-wing design, raised hood line, deeper front valance, new headlamps, larger exterior mirrors, new rear three-quarter windows and new rear styling.

The Tribeca uses Subaru's new 3.6-litre boxer engine, designed with the goal of improving low-end torque and a change to regular-grade fuel. The larger engine displacement increases torque to 247 lb-ft, up from 215, and increases horsepower from 245 to 256. The new engine features Active Valve Control System variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust valves, unlike the previous 3.0-litre which had the system on the intake side only. The engine mates to a substantially revised five-speed automatic transmission that weighs less than the previous unit.

The 2008 Tribeca will be offered in three trim levels, and in five- or seven-passenger seating; pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle's Canadian launch this summer.
