Still the biggest consumer show of any kind in Canada, the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto begins this Friday, February 16th and runs through Sunday, February 25th in downtown Toronto at the Rogers Centre and Metro Toronto Convention Centre (North and South buildings). Organizers expect a crowd of more than 300,000 to spin the turnstiles.

While most people come to see the latest new cars and trucks - there will be more than 1000 new vehicles on display this year, including about 30 unveiled for the first time in Toronto - there are many other attractions and crowd-pleasers, such as the Toyota 4X4 Truck Test Track, the Classics Concourse, the NASCAR Pavilion, Sport Compact Revolution, Motorcycle World, and Cruise Nationals. As well, there will be a "Pony Fever" Performance cars exhibit and "Different by Design": a history of the Studebaker Corporation.

Volkswagen is kindly sponsoring a Child's PlayCare Centre called the "Rabbit Petting Zoo" allowing busy parents some free time to view the minivans of their dreams. And once again, Nissan Canada is generously providing free parking for show visitors in the evenings and on weekends.

Vehicle highlights this year include the high performance 2008 Audi R8, the pollution-free BMW Hydrogen 7 sedan, the North American Premiere of the sexy 2007 SLR Mercedes-Benz McLaren 722 Edition, the eco-friendly 2007 Saturn Aura Green Line Hybrid and the all new 2008 Saturn Vue; the redesigned 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, 2008 Cadillac CTS and 2007 GMC Sierra Denali; the dramatically restyled 2008 Ford Focus, and the new 2008 Ford Taurus (formerly Five-Hundred); the restyled 2008 Porsche Cayenne and 2008 Subaru Legacy and Subaru Outback; the all new 2008 Nissan Rogue, and the new 2008 Nissan Pathfinder V8 and 2008 Nissan Titan Long Bed pickup. The Toronto auto show will also host some exciting concept cars, including the Acura Advanced Sedan recently unveiled at the Detroit auto show; the stylish retro 2008 Dodge Challenger coupe and the all-new Dodge Avenger family sedan; the brutal Ford Super Chief and the Ford SynUS "mobile urban sanctuary"; the sporty Mazda Nagare and Nissan Urge, the Mitsubishi Concept X preview of the next Evo; the high performance Lexus LF-C and the racy Toyota MTRC. More vehicles will be unveiled to the media this Wednesday prior to the show, so stay tuned to CanadianDriver for updates.
