Chicago, Illinois - Dodge has unveiled its all-new 2008 Challenger SRT8 at the Chicago Auto Show, 35 years after the name was last used by the company on a muscle coupe. The new model will be built exclusively in Brampton, Ontario and go on sale in the spring of 2008.
"The all-new Dodge Challenger SRT8 is engineered to give customers everything they want in a modern muscle machine," said Mike Accavitti, Director - Dodge Brand and SRT Global Marketing. "The new version of Dodge's American classic boasts tire-smoking performance and head-turning design, while offering a wide array of state-of-the-art technology, such as GPS navigation, 'Keyless Go' entry, a MyGIG infotainment system and UConnect hands-free communication."
Dodge will offer the limited-edition 2008 Challenger SRT8 in Hemi Orange, Bright Silver Metallic and Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat. Each will carry a numbered dash plaque and carbon fibre-like hood stripes, and will be powered by SRT's 6.1-litre Hemi V8 engine, producing 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. It will sell in the U.S. at a starting price of US$37,995, including US$675 destination.
Interior features will include race-inspired leather seats with exclusive orange accent stripe, SRT-exclusive Reconfigurable Display with Performance Pages for instant feedback on g-forces and acceleration, braking and quarter-mile time, dark headliner, slanted shifter console, titanium weave instrument panel, Kicker High Performance audio system and SIRIUS Satellite Radio.
Along with the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram pickup, the Challenger will make its Canadian debut at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto on February 13.
