Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey - The BMW Group has announced it will mark the North American International Auto Show with the debut of the 335d and X5 xDrive35d, both equipped with the BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance.
BMW Advanced Diesel, slated to appear in the U.S. in late 2008, will meet the strict exhaust emissions of the North American automobile market. The company says the wide availability of the models is a significant milestone in its EfficientDynamics strategy, which seeks to offer customers around the world "maximum driving pleasure with minimum fuel consumption and emissions."
The X5 xDrive35d and 335d use a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with Variable Twin Turbo Technology, producing 265 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque, and fully compliant with emission standards in all 50 states using SCR technology to reduce nitric oxides. The engine, which has won the International Engine of the Year Award multiple times, is featured in a large number of models in Europe. The models are the first BMW diesels to be offered in the U.S. since the 524td, introduced in 1983.
