Detroit, Michigan - Mini unveiled the new Mini Cooper Clubman and Cooper S Clubman models in Detroit today. Both have a longer wheelbase and overall length than regular Mini hatchback models, a roomier cargo area with sideways opening rear doors, and a rear-hinged "Clubdoor" on the passenger side that facilitates entry to the rear seats.
The Clubman is 24 centimetres or 9.4 inches longer than the Mini hatchback. The split rear doors open up to provide access to a cargo area of 260 litres or 9.1 cu ft behind the rear seats. The rear-seatback can be folded down either in part or in full, enlarging luggage capacity up to 930 litres or 32.6 cu. ft.
The Cooper S Clubman features a 175-hp turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission and sprints from 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. It uses only 5.7 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres on the highway. The 118-hp Cooper Clubman accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 9.6 seconds, sipping only 5.3 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (highway) and qualifies for a $1,000 rebate under the Federal EcoAuto Rebate Program.
The all-new Mini Clubman will be shown in Canada at the Montreal International Auto Show from January 18 through 27.
