M3 receives its first-ever V8 engine
Montreal, Quebec - The all-new, fourth-generation BMW M3 Coupe, making its Canadian premiere at the Montreal Auto Show, will arrive in the spring of 2008. It features a high-revving 4.0-litre V8 engine developing 414 horsepower at 8,300 rpm, the first V8 in a series-production M3 and the highest-performing M3 ever offered by the company's performance division.
Unique to the M3 Coupe is a carbon fibre roof panel that reduces weight by 22 kg over the optional steel roof panel with sunroof. Features on the M3 Coupe include driver-adjustable settings for dynamic controls, with an available wheel-mounted "MDrive" button to store the preference, a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox, and a sports-oriented interior that includes an entertainment and navigation system operated through BMW's latest iDrive controller.
The new light-alloy engine produces 295 lb-ft of torque at 3,900 rpm, with 85 per cent of maximum torque available consistently through 6,500 rpm. Power increases by 17 per cent over the last-generation M3's six-cylinder engine, yet the V8 weighs seven per cent less and consumes 8 per cent less fuel than its predecessor.
