Montreal, Quebec - After introducing the new sedan versions of these pint-sized, Korean-built economy cars last year, Chevrolet and Pontiac are introducing the 2009 Aveo5 and Wave5 hatchback models, the latter available only in Canada. These redesigned hatches offer estimated fuel economy of 8.9 L/100 km (32 mpg Imp) in the city and 6.8 L/100 km (42 mpg Imp) on the highway with the standard five-speed manual transmission.
"The new Aveo5 demonstrates that gasoline remains viable in a highly efficient, affordable package," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. "It is a terrific value, with a worry-free ownership experience that has the lowest ownership cost of any vehicle on the market, yet it packs all of Chevy's fun-to-drive spirit."
The Aveo5 and Wave5 uses a 1.6-litre DOHC four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing that produces 107 hp and has been tuned for quieter performance. Chevrolet says that the Aveo5 can travel more than 643 km (400 miles) between fill-ups. It goes on sale in mid-2008.
