The ultimate machine is now even more powerful
Montreal, Quebec - Synonymous with performance since its introduction, the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 uses a new 8.4-litre aluminum V10 engine producing 600 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque.
The new Viper boasts 90 more horsepower than its predecessor, and zero-to-96 km/h performance in less than four seconds. It will arrive in showrooms this summer with a new level of options, including five new exterior colours, four new interior colour combinations and a new wheel design.
The Viper's V10 engine block was revised for a 1-millimetre-larger bore, raising the displacement from 8.3 to 8.4 litres, with strengthened bulkheads, improved water jackets, pressed-in iron cylinder liners and cross-bolted main bearing caps. New cylinder heads include CNC-shaped combustion chambers, larger valves and variable valve timing, along with a two-piece intake manifold and revised air cleaner box with low-restriction filter. The engine also features a larger oil pump and a swinging oil pickup adapted from Viper competition engines to improve oil pressure in high rpm and hard-cornering conditions.
The transmission was also upgraded, with a new, smaller-diameter twin-disc clutch, 10 per cent wider gears, new synchronizer package and new shifter systems, along with a provision for an external transmission cooler.
The 2008 Viper is available as a roadster or coupe, with a new hood, larger hood scoop, and functional hood louvers.
