The world's best-selling car moves into its tenth generation
Montreal, Quebec - Having sold almost 33 million copies worldwide since the first one in 1966, Toyota has wisely made the all-new, tenth-generation redesign more evolutionary than revolutionary, with sleeker styling, more efficient engines and more safety features.
Built in Toyota's plant in Ontario, the all-new Corolla is marginally longer than its predecessor, with a lower overall height, wider body and wider track for improved stability. The CE, LE and S trim lines use a new 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic. For 2009, the performance-oriented XRS model returns to the line-up, carrying a new 2.4-litre four-cylinder and five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.
Improved safety features included as standard equipment on all models are anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution, seat side and curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. The XRS model includes stability and traction control.
Other features on the new Corolla include first-ever electric power steering, a more rigid body structure, standard tilt and telescopic wheel, redesigned seats, available Optitron gauges, increase trunk capacity, reduced noise and vibration, and new suspension.
