Auburn Hills, Michigan - Audi of America has announced the North American debut of the all-new 2009 Audi A4 Avant at the New York International Auto Show.
The new A4 Avant features a 2.0-litre TFSI four-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing 211 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, an improvement over the 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque in the current A4 Avant. The 2009 version will also offer a 3.2-litre FSI V6 that makes 265 horsepower and features Audi's patented Valvelift Technology, which varies the stroke of the intake valves. Transmission choices will include a six-speed manual or Tiptronic automatic.
The Avant's proportions have been significantly reconfigured, including a shorter front overhang, increased hood and wheelbase, and longer overall length. The body is more rigid and safer in build than its predecessor but is approximately 10 per cent lighter. The new A4 Avant will have the largest luggage capacity in its class, with up to 50.5 cubic feet (1430 litres) of cargo space.
Other features include "Xenon-plus" headlights, consisting of 14 white light-emitting diodes; a driver-oriented cockpit that borrows features from the A8; an electro-mechanical parking brake; and a complete range of high-tech systems, including parking aids, lane assist, side assist and adaptive cruise control.
