New York, New York - Under its banner of "Vote for BlueTEC", Mercedes-Benz has unveiled three new clean diesel SUVs with the latest AdBlue injection technology. Along with the R320 BlueTEC and GL320 BlueTEC, the company also presented the world premiere of the updated 2008 M-Class, in the form of the ML320 BlueTEC.
All three diesel-powered SUVs comply with the strictest exhaust limits such as the Bin 5 and ULEV standards in the U.S., and will be available for registration in all fifty states. They are also expected to fulfill the future EU6 standard in Europe.
"The BlueTEC campaign expresses our ambitious targets for the U.S.," said Dr. Thomas Weber, member of the Management Board Daimler AG, Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. "We want to make diesel driving popular here again, especially for SUVs. The prospects for this are now even better because, just in time for the world premiere in New York, we have become the first manufacturer ever to receive certification enabling registration of Bin 5 and ULEV-compliant diesel SUVs, thus qualifying them for registration in all fifty states."
The BlueTEC V6 engines produce 211 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, while consuming 20 to 40 per cent less fuel than comparable gasoline models.
The company also showed its new-generation SL roadster. The four engine variants include two optimized six-cylinders, providing increased performance with reduced fuel consumption, along with the V8-powered SL500 and twelve-cylinder SL600. Rounding out the company's display are new Mercedes-AMG performance versions of the ML and SL, including the ML63 AMG, SL63 AMG and SL65 AMG.
