Following the introduction of the 1 Series Coupe, BMW offers the new 1 Series Cabriolet. The new convertible will go on sale in March with a starting price of $39,900.
The new Cabriolet is available as the 128i, with naturally-aspirated 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, and as the 135i, with the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder that was named 2007 International Engine of the Year.
Equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, the 128i accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, but with a combined fuel consumption of 9.3 L/100 km. The 135i's twin-turbo engine, producing 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, does the sprint in 5.4 seconds, with a rating of 10.1 L/100 km.
Standard features on the 128i include 17-inch alloy wheels with run-flat tires, dynamic stability control, six airbags, heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control.
The 135i adds exclusive M Aerodynamics Package, sport suspension, 18-inch wheels with performance tires, and high-performance braking system.
Both models include a fully automatic soft-top that opens in 22 seconds, at speeds up to 40 km/h, and use a rollover protection system for occupant safety.
