Domestic midsize sport utility vehicles, which include the popular Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Blazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, have comprised more than 70 percent of the midsize SUV market since 1990.

5 mph bumper crash tests for Trailblazer, Ram, Explorer and Liberty

In low-speed crash tests, the bumpers on the new Chevrolet TrailBlazer sport utility vehicle and redesigned Dodge Ram 1500 pickup improved compared with predecessor models of the same vehicles. The Ford Explorer SUV didn't improve. And the Jeep Liberty sustained more damage than three other vehicles in a recent series of crash tests at 5 mph conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

In a ceremony here, the Queen's University Solar Vehicle Team was awarded first place in their class in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. The 'production class' recognizes that vehicles such as the Queen's 'Mirage' who don't use the expensive technology of space grade solar cells and batteries that are used in the open class.

Subaru's Tom McGeer won the Rally of the Tall Pines in Bancroft this past weekend, his sixth victory of the 2001 season. Vancouver-area motorists to pay two cents more per litre of gas

TransLink, the organization responsible for transit and road infrastructure in the Greater Vancouver region, has decided to add two cents to the price of each litre of gasoline in order to raise an estimated $40 to $43 million to make up for a budget shortfall. Translink will also increase property taxes and increase transit fares.

Honda begins building Odyssey minivan in Alabama

Ford recalls F-150 Lightning pickups

Detroit, Michigan - Ford Motor Company is recalling 8,966 F-150 Lightning pickup trucks, including 363 in Canada, because of a potential coolant leak in the engine's supercharger. The problem affects F-150 Lightnings built between December 1998 and August 2000 at the Oakville, Ontario Truck Assembly plant. Affected owners will receive letters in the mail and Ford will fix the problem at no charge.

Hyundai/Kia to break ground on new California design centre

On Monday, November 12th, Mong Koo Chung, Chairman of Hyundai and Kia, will help break ground on a new U.S. Design Center in Irvine, California. He will be joined by executives from Hyundai, Kia, Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc., The Irvine Company, Cushman & Wakefield and local, state and federal elected officials. Some automakers reported October sales yesterday. General Motors of Canada dealers sold 34,640 vehicles in October, an increase of 19.0 per cent from the same period last year. Passenger car sales for the month were 17,540 units, up 6.8 per cent, and truck sales were 17,100 units, up 34.8 per cent when compared to October 2000.
