NHTSA recalls: Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Sentra, BMW 5-Series, Honda CR-V and three Hyundai models

The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released a list of auto safety recalls announced in November, 2001. The NHTSA list usually includes vehicles sold in the United States and Canada, but affected owners should check with their respective dealers to verify Canadian recall information.

November recalls include 38,700 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokees which have may have an improperly installed vent hose near the gas filler; 103,000 2000-2001 Nissan Sentras which could have a defective crank position sensor that could stop the engine running; 6,744 2002 Honda CR-V's which have a problem with the front seat-belt pretensioners; 1,318 2002 BMW 5-Series sedans with a possible cut in the tire sidewalls; and four Hyundai models with different, but relatively minor problems: 26,608 2000 - 2001 Hyundai Accents are being recalled to replace a PCV hose that may freeze at subzero temperatures and cause a fast idle; 42,782 1997-2001 Hyundai Tiburons are being recalled to fix front seat belts that might twist; 86,513 1999-2001 Hyundai Sonatas with side airbags may have a defective airbag warning light; and 1,963 2001 Hyundai XG300 sedans have a faulty powertrain control module that could lead to an engine stall.

Full details about these and other vehicle recalls are available at the NHTSA web-site, www.nhtsa.dot.gov
