Lengthy NHTSA December recall list includes minor and major safety problems

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released a list of auto safety recalls announced in December 2001. The list identifies the make and model of the vehicle or equipment involved, with a brief description of the safety problem. A list of recalled vehicles can be found below. Details of these recalls can be found at www.nhtsa.dot.gov.

December, 2001 recalled vehicles include (number of recalled vehicles in brackets):

  • 2000-2001 Honda Accord and Civic (16,549 combined),
  • 2002 Jeep Liberty (102,000),
  • 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee (50,200),
  • 1995 Ford Mustang, 1995 Mercury Sable, 1995 Ford Taurus (695,260 combined),
  • 2000-2001 GMC Jimmy, 2000-2001 Oldmobile Bravada, 2000-2002 Chevrolet Blazer (506,377 combined),
  • 2002 Chevrolet Camaro, 2002 Pontiac Firebird (897),
  • 2001 Chevrolet Venture, 2001 Pontiac Aztec, 2001 Pontiac Montana, 2001 Oldmobile Silhouette (75,816 combined),
  • 2002 Saturn Vue (327),
  • 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe (15,241),
  • 2000-2001 Mazda MPV (19,000),
  • 1998-1999 Mercedes-Benz C Class (65,731),
  • 2000-2001 Nissan Sentra (81,393),
  • 2002 Lexus ES300 (1,697),
  • 2002 Lexus ES300 and Toyota Camry (19,587 combined).
