Goodyear wins industry award for its Wrangler MT/R off-road tire

Dearborn, Michigan - Goodyear has won an Automotive News PACE Award for its most durable off-road tire, the Wrangler MT/R. The tire won in the "product innovation" category of the award, sponsored by Automotive News and Ernst & Young LLP. The awards recognize innovations in new products or services that have significant market impact and act as "game changers" in the automotive industry.

"MT/R is an off-road tire not only with increased traction in mud and sand, and higher mileage, but also with an acceptably quiet ride and good handling on the highway," award officials said.

The Wrangler MT/R, manufactured at Goodyear's tire plant in Fayetteville, N.C., is approved for the civilian Hummer vehicle and is standard equipment on the 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Goodyear has received three major awards for the Wrangler MT/R. Last March, it received a NorTech (Northeast Ohio Technology Coalition) innovation award. In November 1999, Popular Mechanics magazine named the tire a winner of one of its Editor's Choice Awards for New Products.
