GM to revive GTO

General Motors will bring back the Pontiac GTO nameplate next year - the GTO was a 60's muscle car known for its big engine, big horsepower, and poor handling.

The new GTO will be based on the current Holden Monaro, an Australian-designed and built mid-sized coupe with a 5.7 litre V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission. The car will be restyled to look more like a Pontiac.

GM's Holden subsidiary has been building Australian-designed GM cars since the 1940's, but this is the first time that GM will import cars from that country. GM expects to import up to 20,000 cars per year.
