Survey says Canadian car awards influence purchasers

Montreal, Quebec - An independent survey of purchasers of the 2002 Nissan Altima, last year's Canadian Car of the Year, indicates that almost 70% of the buyers were aware that the Altima won the 2002 Canadian Car of the Year award. Of those, 93.3% said the award influenced their purchase "to some extent" and 47.5% said its purchase influence was "strong to extremely strong". Of the latter group, 57.1% were women and 43.1% were men.

The annual Canadian Car and Truck of the Year awards are sponsored by AJAC (Automobile Journalists Association of Canada). The survey was conducted by the firm of Thompson Lightstone and Company and limited to Nissan Altima buyers.

The results were similar to a 1999 survey of Acura 3.2 TL buyers, when it was the Canadian Car of the Year. Those purchasers also indicated that the Car of the Year awards had an influence on their purchase decision.
