NHTSA recalls: Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Sentra, BMW 5-Series, Honda CR-V and three Hyundai models

The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released a list of auto safety recalls announced in November, 2001. The NHTSA list usually includes vehicles sold in the United States and Canada, but affected owners should check with their respective dealers to verify Canadian recall information.

Death rate for older motorcyclists jumps dramatically

GM recalls 78,000 GMC Envoy and Chevrolet Trailblazer models

General Motors is recalling 78,004 GMC Envoy and Chevrolet Trailblazer models built between January and August, 2001 to recalibrate the transfer case control module. On models equipped with 4-wheel drive, the calibration of the transfer case control module could cause insufficient high-speed gear engagement. If the gear is not engaged, the vehicle can roll when the transmission is in "Park".

Hyundai Auto Canada reported a significant 51.5% sales increase in the calendar year 2001 compared to 2000. The company says that all of its models had increased sales lead by the redesigned Elantra sedan and Elantra GT hatchback models which had a 96.2% sales increase.

BMW Canada reported record-breaking sales of 15,702 vehicles in 2001, a 15.2% sales increase over the 2000 calendar year. This was the eleventh consecutive year of increased sales for BMW Canada.
