Compact 2004 Chevy Optra enters most popular car segment
"Chevrolet Optra is for young Canadian families who are looking for a functional dependable car with a generous level of standard equipment at an attractive price," said Don Johnson, General Director of Marketing.
Johnson said the Optra is aimed at first-time car buyers, young professionals, recent graduates, or families looking for a slightly more mature and enjoyable vehicle to drive. "Optra is key to our strategy of continued market share growth in Canada and it is a valuable addition to our small car portfolio," says Johnson.
The Optra has a 4500 mm (177.2-inch) overall length, 1724.6 (67.9-inch) width, and 1445.2 mm (56.9-inch) height providing enough room for passengers over six foot tall. Its generous 2600 mm (102.4-inch) wheelbase provides a smoother ride.
Under the hood is a 2.0-litre, 16-valve DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine that delivers 119 horsepower @ 5400 rpm and 126 lb-ft of torque @ 4000 rpm. The ULEV-rated engine runs on regular octane gasoline and is mated to a standard, five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic, and is equipped with a standard engine block heater for quicker warm-ups in Canadian winters.
Optras will be offered in base and LS trim levels. All Optras have standard four-wheel independent suspension, P195/65R15 all-season steel belted radials, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, and four-wheel disc brakes.
The 2004 Optra comes with a 5-year/100,000 km powertrain and 3-year/60,000 km total warranty, as well as GM Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation services. The Optra will be available for sale in Canada by early 2004.
