Ford recalls 170,000 trucks for steering shaft problem

Washington, D.C. - Ford Motor Company is recalling 171,446 Ford F-150/F-250 pickups and Ford Expeditions, model year 1997, to inspect the steering intermediate shaft yoke which could separate from the steering gear input shaft resulting in a loss of steering control. Owner notification began June 2, 2003.

Other recall notices published on Monday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration include 43,649 Mitsubishi Outlanders, model year 2003, to seal openings in the dash panel and side sills that may allow water seepage; 123,360 Toyota Tacoma double cab pickups, model years 2001-2003 to install a fuel hose protector that could be damaged in a side collision; 357 BMW X5s, model year 2003, to inspect the distance between the brake line and the steering shaft; 232 Ferrari 550 Maranellos, model year 2001 and Ferrari 456M/GT/GTA, model years 2001-2002, to replace transmission cooler oil lines; and 164 Infiniti FX45s, model year 2003, to replace an tighten the propeller shaft bolts to the transaxle and differential.
