At the Geneva Motor Show next week, Volkswagen will introduce a Phaeton sedan with a 5 litre ten cylinder diesel engine with twin turbochargers. The engine develops 313 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. The Phaeton V10 TDI also features a newly developed six-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel-drive.

February 27, 2003 A report issued by the Bank of Montreal forecasts a 5.8% decline in the automobile production sector by the end of 2004 and a 5.0% decline in motor vehicle parts production. The bank also predicts auto sales in North America will decline by approximately six percent in 2003, and won't return to current levels until around 2005. February 27, 2003 In response to the federal government's 'Straight Ahead' plan for Canada's transportation system issued on Tuesday, the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) said it is disappointed the proposal does not contain any concrete actions or adequate funding for Canada's increasingly deficient road infrastructure. The CAA also said it is opposed to new road tolls and user fees. BMW Group's Mini division will show two more powerful versions of the Cooper and Cooper S models at the Geneva Motor Show. A John Cooper Works tuning kit for the Cooper includes a modified cylinder head with higher compression, altered engine electronics, and a special air filter and muffler.

The public awareness effort is a 2-year partnership with the non-profit National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC) focused on increasing ethanol use in flexible fuel vehicles. February 25, 2003 Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire is expanding the size offerings for its Bridgestone Potenza RE950 performance radial. The company will add seven new sizes, in response to consumer demand for more all-season, V- and Z-speed rated tires.
Mercedes-Benz will show four new models at the Geneva Motor Show: the new CL 65 AMG, the new CLK Cabriolet, the SLK "Final Edition", and the E400 CDI diesel sedan. February 21, 2003 Saab Canada, a division of General Motors of Canada, announced that it will be the presenting sponsor of Man Inc. - a mixed-media musical play that combines movie clips, jazz and dance with traditional theatre. Man Inc. will open at the Monument National in Montreal on March 27, 2003. February 21, 2003 Ford announced that it will change the way it designs and develops new vehicles. Its North American product development organization will now include four platform groups that will be responsible for sets of like vehicles. Previously, product development was organized around five brand-oriented groups.
Toyota Canada has announced the manufacturer's suggested retail prices for the redesigned 2004 Sienna minivan. The seven-passenger Sienna CE starts at $30,000, a $635 reduction over the 2003 model despite an additional $1,500 in new features. February 20, 2003 Now in its seventh year of operation, OnStar's emergency and information service will be available on 11 additional vehicles in the 2003 calendar year and will offer its services on more than 60 models from seven different automotive manufacturers. February 20, 2003 Porsche has chosen the Michelin Diamaris 20 inch tire to be standard equipment on its new Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo SUVs. Michelin and Porsche worked closely together to develop a tire that fit the unique demands of the Cayenne. February 19, 2003 The 2004 Volvo S60 R sedan and V70 R wagon, which will go on sale in the Canadian market in May, 2003, will be priced at $58,995 for the S60 R and $59,995 for the V70 R, announced Volvo Cars of Canada. February 19, 2003 Avanti Motor Corporation announced that plans to roll out the 2004 Studebaker Xtreme Utility Vehicle (XUV) will move forward, despite a recent lawsuit filed by General Motors. GM's suit contends that Avanti's Studebaker XUV "knocks off" the shape of GM's Hummer H2 and will confuse the public. The lawsuit alleges that on February 14, 2003 at the Chicago Auto Show, Avanti Motors debuted the Studebaker XUV that knocks off and misappropriates the shape of the "world-famous and incredibly popular" Hummer H2 SUV. February 17, 2003 Toyota announced it will bring the Lexus automobile brand to Japan and reorganize their Japanese-market Toyota-brand sales channels into four channels from the current five. Nissan is adding a new V8-powered, eight-passenger full-size SUV to its vehicle lineup. The Pathfinder Armada, which will be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in April, goes on sale this Fall as a 2004 model. It will be assembled at Nissan's new $1.4 billion plant in Canton, Mississippi. February 14, 2003 Ford of Canada's Essex Engine Plant in Windsor will supply V-6 engines for the all-new 2004 Mercury Monterey and Ford Freestar minivans - including a new 4.2-litre engine that is the largest and highest torque motor offered in a minivan. February 14, 2003 The Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be available in a version with the world's most powerful V8 passenger car diesel engine. The bi-turbo unit with common rail direct injection, together with other high-tech innovations, is capable of developing 260 horsepower from a displacement of 3996 cubic centimetres. Subaru introduced the Forester 2.5 XT, a new higher-performance version of its compact Forester sport-utility vehicle powered by a 210-horsepower turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-litre boxer engine. Toyota Canada announced that it has donated a Prius gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle to Ability Rally Racing.
