Most fuel efficient vehicles announced for 2004
Each year, Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency presents the EnerGuide Awards to the manufacturers of the most fuel-efficient new vehicles sold in Canada in each of nine classes. The EnerGuide Awards are now in their sixth year and the winners of the 2004 model year awards are determined using the annual consumption estimate for each vehicle published in the 2004 Fuel Consumption Guide.
The annual Guide lists the fuel consumption ratings of new cars and light-duty trucks sold in Canada. It allows Canadians to compare vehicles and helps them choose the most fuel-efficient vehicle that meets their everyday needs.
The EnerGuide Awards and the Fuel Consumption Guide are intended to help Canadians make smart choices about the vehicles they drive. Fuel-efficient vehicles can save motorists money over the long term, as well as allowing them to meet their target for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions set out in the Climate Change Plan for Canada - approximately one tonne per year per Canadian.
The ratings listed in the Guide are presented according to vehicle make and model, class, type of transmission, and fuel type. They include estimates of annual fuel cost and fuel use based on 20,000 kilometres of vehicle travel, 55 percent in the city and 45 percent on the highway. This information is also printed on the EnerGuide label that appears on all new cars and light-duty trucks sold in Canada.
Canadians can obtain information about the 2004 Fuel Consumption Guide or the EnerGuide Award winners by calling 1 800 O CANADA toll-free or by visiting the Web site at http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/vehicles.
