Ajax, Ontario couple win Lexus in Rouge Valley hospital lottery

Toronto, Ontario - Winners of the grand prize Canadian-built 2004 Lexus RX 330, valued at more than $62,000, were presented with the keys from Kenji Tomikawa, President of Toyota Canada Inc. and Bryan Rowntree, Dealer Principal of Scarborough Lexus Toyota. Thirty-year Ajax residents, Lloyd and Gloria Harris, happily accepted ownership of the luxury sports utility vehicle after purchasing the winning ticket in the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation's Lottery 2004, in support of the hospital's newly installed Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner.

"I just couldn't believe it. I thought for sure it was a joke!" said Gloria Harris, who received the winning call April Fool's Day. No stranger to Rouge Valley Health System, Gloria and her husband Lloyd, who works with CIBC in Toronto, had both of their children at Rouge Valley Centenary.

Almost $500,000 has been raised from the lottery over the past five years to support the MRI scanner that serves the East Toronto and West Durham communities. Prior to the Lottery, which supports the hospital's Vital Links Campaign, there were 17 MRIs west of the Don Valley and only two east of it.

Through the support of Toyota Canada Inc. and Scarborough Lexus Toyota, the installation of the first MRI in Scarborough was fast tracked in order to meet the high demand for this state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.

Toyota Canada Inc. and Scarborough Lexus Toyota have partnered with Rouge Valley since the Lottery's inception, providing a luxury vehicle as the grand prize. Other prizes for the 2004 Lottery included a 36" RCA television and two DVD players, all donated by Bad Boy Furniture and RCA.
