Chrysler reveals 425-horsepower Chrysler 300C SRT8

Pebble Beach, California - Chrysler unveiled a new 425 horsepower, Hemi-powered 300C SRT8 at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. The 300C SRT8 has a new 6.1 litre Hemi V-8 with 85 more horses than the 5.7 litre Hemi engine in the standard 300C. The 300C SRT8 arrives in showrooms in the Spring of 2005.

"With the Chrysler 300C SRT8, we are taking the Hemi engine to the next level, and growing the SRT brand," said said Dan Knott, Director - Street and Racing Technology (SRT). "The 2005 Chrysler 300C SRT8 is the natural evolution of the Chrysler brand, the SRT brand, and the Hemi."

Preliminary performance targets for the 300C SRT8 are 0-60 mph in the low 5-second range; and quarter-mile time in the high 13-second range.

The 425-horsepower, normally aspirated 6.1-litre Hemi engine is the highest specific-output engine ever offered by the Chrysler Group. Its 69.8 horsepower-per-litre rating exceeds that of the 1966 "Street Hemi." Torque is rated at 420 lb.-ft.

To get more displacement, SRT engineers bored out the diameter of the cylinders by 3.5 millimetres each, to increase the total displacement to 6.1 litres from 5.7 litres. Compression ratio was also increased to 10.3:1 from 9.6:1.

Chrysler's SRT performance division has developed six vehicles: the Dodge Viper SRT-10, Dodge SRT-4, Dodge Ram SRT-10, Dodge Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab, Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 Coupe and Roadster, and the 300C SRT8.
