NTHSA announces Ford recall

Washington, D.C. – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTHSA) in the U.S. has announced a recall for at least 123,206 2005 Ford Five Hundred, Ford Freestyle and Mercury Montego vehicles for fuel tank straps that may break, causing the fuel tank and fuel tank heat shield to drop on the drive-shaft in all-wheel-drive vehicles, or on the exhaust system in front-wheel-drive vehicles. Should this happen, drivers may notice a noise or fuel leak. Dealers will replace both fuel tank straps. NTHSA reports that the recall is expected to begin on December 1, 2005.
