Nissan

Nissan Altima, 2002-2006
The third generation Nissan Altima was offered with both four-cylinder and V6 engines, but the 2.5-litre four in early models had numerous problems, some of them serious, reports Contributing Editor, Chris Chase.

2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster
The convertible version of the new 370Z has a power folding cloth top that doesn’t intrude on trunk space like folding hardtops do, says Senior Editor, Paul Williams. “Consequently, you can fit some luggage... and go for a weekend.”

2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid 2.5S
It’s a little quicker than its mid-size hybrid competitors from Ford and Toyota, but the Nissan Altima Hybrid is less refined and not quite as fuel-efficient, reports Editor-in-chief, Greg Wilson.

Second Opinion: 2009 Nissan Murano SL AWD
Though “not as distinctive as the old one,” the new Murano has a “nicer interior” and a “spacious cargo area”, says Contributing Editor, Chris Chase. Its 3.5-litre V6 engine and CVT make it a “smooth driver”, he says.

Nissan 350Z, 2003-2008
Despite a rather long list of problem areas, Contributing Editor Chris Chase recommends a used 350Z “provided the seller has evidence (in the form of service records) that many of the common issues have been dealt with.”

2009 Nissan 370Z Touring
More powerful than the model it replaces, the 2009 Nissan 370Z is “worthy of high praise,” says Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh, who likes its responsive performance and quick handling, and loves its optional industry-first, rev-matching six-speed manual transmission.

2009 Nissan Cube 1.8 S
Buyers who hate the 2009 Nissan Cube’s styling won’t care about its practicality, says Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh, but fans of its face will also love its functionality: it isn’t very powerful, but it’ll hold the tallest driver with ease.

Nissan Sentra, 2001-2006
Many of the reliability issues with the fifth generation Nissan Sentra involved the optional 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine in the SE-R model, says reviewer Chris Chase. “Cars with the 1.8-litre and old 2.0-litre engines are solid choices,” he advises.

2009 Nissan Murano SL
The Nissan Murano’s Infiniti-inspired upscale interior is also very practical, says reviewer Michael Clark. “The funny thing about the Murano is that it doesn't feel quite Nissan or Infiniti; it's almost a marque in its own right,” he says.
