CanadianDriver's New Car Buyer's Guide 2006:
Acura TSX

For 2006, the Acura TSX receives a few extra features. There’s a hands-free link, front fog lights, two-position remote-linked driver’s seat, multi-information display, maintenance minder and a digital media auxiliary jack for the stereo.

The TSX is based on a global platform used for the European Honda Accord; it’s slightly shorter and narrower than the Accord sold here. It offers an extremely high level of refinement, with firm but comfortable suspension, classic styling, and top-notch cabin materials.

The TSX is available in one trim line that can be optioned with a Navigation package. It uses a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated power mirrors, 17-inch alloy wheels, auto-off headlamps, leather interior with heated eight-way driver and four-way passenger power-adjustable seats, leather-wrapped wheel and shifter knob, 360-watt, six-CD system with eight speakers, cruise control, power sunroof, power windows with key-operated up/down feature, tilt and telescopic wheel, and 60/40 folding rear seat.

The Navi package includes a navigation system with bilingual voice guidance and recognition, and wheel-mounted controls.

Driving enthusiasts still prefer rear-wheel-drive, but the TSX is not to be underestimated; it’s one of the best-handling of the front-wheelers on the road. The five-speed automatic features SportShift manual mode, but a close-coupled six-speed is also available. Best of all, its sporty characteristics are tempered with a smooth ride and an interior that’s nicer than would be expected for the price.
