- New V8-powered Allure Super model
- New front-end design on CX and CXL models
- CXS trim line discontinued
- Chrome Package standard on all models
- Exterior colours: Scarlet Red, Gold Mist Metallic, Dark Mocha Metallic and Dark Slate Metallic

For 2008, the Buick Allure – known as the LaCrosse in the U.S. market – receives a subtle redesign, inspired by the Velite concept car. The big news is the Super, a historic name that now applies to a model with a V8 engine and unique styling cues.

The Allure now comes with a choice of three engines: a 200-hp 3.8-litre V6 in the CX and CXL; a 3.6-litre V6 with variable valve timing that makes 240 hp, used in the CXL; and the 300-hp 5.3-litre V8 in the Super. All engines use a four-speed automatic transmission that's a heavy-duty model in the Super.

While all models come standard with front bucket seats, the CX and CXL models can be optioned with a 55/45 divided front seat and column shifter for six-passenger seating.

Features on the CX include 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, power mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, cruise control, floor mats, tire pressure monitoring system, tilt wheel, power windows, cloth seats with six-way power driver's adjustment, CD stereo, power locks with keyless entry, traction assist and OnStar.

The CXL adds 16-inch aluminum wheels, automatic dual-zone climate control, cargo net, illuminated vanity mirrors, remote starter, and theft deterrent system.

The Super adds 18-inch aluminum wheels, heated mirrors, rear spoiler, embroidered floor mats, walnut interior trim, garage door opener, CD/MP3 stereo, larger-diameter brakes, chrome exhaust tips, performance suspension with Bilstein shocks, and rear parking assist.

The entry level in Buick's line-up, the Allure represents good value, with comfortable seating, an extremely quiet interior, good fit and finish, and a well-sized footprint. The Super's more powerful engine and tighter suspension brings Buick full circle as one of GM's performance models, using a name last seen in 1958.

Although not quite as large as the Lucerne, the Allure is still roomy and offers numerous features, and its lower price makes it a viable candidate in the midsize market.
