- New V8 H3 Alpha model
- Standard curtain airbags on all models

For 2008, the Hummer H3 is joined by a new model, the V8-powered H3 Alpha. Curtain airbags, previously an option, are now standard equipment on all models.

Based on a truck platform shared with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, the H3 is available with a 3.7-litre inline five-cylinder with five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic, and with the new 5.3-litre V8, with four-speed automatic. Both models use an electronically-controlled four-wheel drive system, including traction control, underbody shielding and stability control program.

Features include 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, recovery hooks, front bucket seats, 60/40 divided rear seat, CD stereo, roof rack side rails, rubberized cargo floor area, cruise control, keyless entry, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, power mirrors, deep-tinted glass, three auxiliary 12-volt power outlets, and OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation.

Available options and packages include an off-road suspension package, trailer package, chrome appearance package and full carpeting.

With its small size and short turning radius, the H3 can outmanoeuvre its bigger H2 sibling and still hold its own on the roughest of trails. The new V8 engine addresses the five-cylinder's sometimes tepid performance. A well-done interior and comfort features make this a viable choice for those who like to go off-road but in style; cross-shop it against vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Toyota FJ Cruiser.
