GM hosts Disabilities Matters Conference

Detroit, Michigan - Members of GM’s Fleet and Commercial organization will host a special conference designed to help companies collaborate on best practices for relating to people with disabilities.

“We were honored last year and we thought this conference was a great way to share ideas on how to make things better in the workplace for people with disabilities,” said John Gaydash, director, GM Fleet & Commercial Operations.  “Employees who have disabilities offer us a great deal of insight into how to continually strive to be the best company we can be.”

Last year, GM was recognized with a Disability Matters Award for its GM Mobility program, which makes automotive transportation easier and more accessible for millions of people with disabilities as well as their caregivers.

“One of the key elements in maintaining independence is a person’s mobility,” Gaydash said. “GM is dedicated to improving people’s lives by making our vehicles accessible.”

At this year’s conference GM will host three panels of expert speakers on topics relating to disabilities in the workplace including work/life, diversity and marketing initiatives. This year’s keynote speaker is Grace Chung Becker, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Justice.

This year’s honorees include Microtel Inns & Suites, Nordstrom, Verizon Communications, McDonalds USA, Walgreen Company and KPMG LLP.
