Munich, Germany - The last of the current-generation Mini convertibles has rolled off the line in Oxford, England. The last model was a Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk painted in White Silver, which has been sold to a buyer in the U.S. Around 164,000 of the current Mini convertibles were produced following its launch in 2001.

The Mini convertible’s top market was Great Britain, followed by Ireland and then the U.S., Germany, Italy and Japan. Canada and Australia also rank among the top-ten sales markets, with recent high growth rates in China and Russia.

“For us, this is the end of an era,” said Oliver Zipse, Plant Director of the Oxford assembly plant. “It is a great joy to build a car and know exactly how much fun customers will have with it.”

The British plant will reserve its manufacturing capacities for the Mini and Mini Clubman until further notice.
