U.S. requires onboard diagnostics for big trucks
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule that will require Onboard Diagnostic Systems (OBD) on heavy-duty engines used in vehicles weighing over 14,000 lbs. The requirement, which will apply to vehicles from model year 2010 forward, will monitor the emissions control systems for malfunctions.

Honda Insight hybrid will debut at Detroit Auto Show
The production version of the new Honda Insight hybrid will make its world debut in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, followed later in the month by its Canadian debut at the Montreal International Auto Show.

Fisker Automotive will debut plug-in hybrid at Detroit show
Fisker Automotive, a "green" U.S. premium sports car company, will debut its first production car, the Fisker Karma, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

Electric car sales drop by more than half in Britain
Sales of electric cars have dropped by more than half this year in Britain, according to a report from CleanGreenCars. Only 156 were sold from January to October 2008, compared to 374 for the same period in 2007.

GM announces pricing of new hybrid pickup trucks
General Motors Canada has announced pricing for the new two-mode hybrid versions of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab pickup trucks, which will start at $46,725 in 2WD and $50,875 in 4WD.

Low-speed electric vehicles safe, says Electric Mobility
Electric Mobility Canada, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of readily-available electric mobility, said it is responding to a number of recent news stories concerning the viability of low-speed electric vehicles in mixed-use environments.

EU automobile emission reductions vary
Despite significant emission reductions in recent years, only 11 European Union Member States are expected to remain within their emission limits set by the EU National Emission Ceilings (NEC) Directive for all four air pollutants.

Europe moves closer to new fuel quality law
The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership in the U.K. has reported that Europe is moving closer to finalizing a new fuel quality law that will require fuel suppliers to cut full lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions from road fuels by six per cent between 2010 and 2020.

Consumers want action on carbon concessions: HSBC
Global research results released by the HSBC Climate Partnership has revealed that consumers want governments to "stop haggling on carbon concessions" and act on them.

Volvo launches E85 models in Thailand
Volvo Car Thailand has presented the country's first and only locally-produced flexible fuel car, the Volvo S80 2.5FT, capable of running on E85 fuel.
