Volvo

2010 Volvo XC60
The 2010 XC60 is a “genuinely nice car,” says Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh, who finds it powerful and sportier than expected. It’s pricey and thirsty, but Volvo will add a cheaper non-turbo, front-wheel drive version in the future.

2009 Volvo XC90 V8 R-Design
The 2009 Volvo XC90 is spiffed up with an R-Design package, but Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh isn’t moved; there’s much to like in the handsome interior and V8 engine, but not enough to outweigh its fuel consumption, bulk, and price.

Second Opinion – 2009 Volvo XC90 R-Design
Against its broad array of younger and/or refreshed competitors, the Volvo XC90 R-Design has a tough row to hoe, says contributor Peter Bleakney. "Yet those who embrace its "Volvo-ness"... will find happiness here," he says.

Volvo S60, 2001-2008
There are a number of reliability issues to be on the look out for in a used Volvo S60, reports Contributing Editor, Chris Chase. “My key advice would be to know what you’re getting into,” he says.

2010 Volvo XC60
Claimed to the safest Volvo ever built, the new XC60 is a sporty but practical luxury crossover that’s ideal for Canadian driving conditions, reports Editor-in-chief, Greg Wilson. The base price is expected to be in the high $40s to low $50s.

2009 Volvo XC70 T6
A newly available turbocharged six-cylinder engine in the 2009 XC70 improves its performance significantly, says contributor Peter Bleakney. An attractive interior, large cargo area, off-road ability, and a high level of safety are its strong points, he says.

2009 Volvo XC90 V8
While the top-of-the-line XC90 R Design edition is well-equipped and has many useful and innovative seating and storage features as well as safety features, author Michael Clark questions whether it is worth its $72,000 price-tag.

2009 Volvo C30 T5 R-Design
The C30’s personality leans away from the hot-hatch and more towards the touring side of the equation, says contributor Peter Bleakney. It's "a premium Euro-hatch that seems most suited to lasering along the highway or cruising smooth sweepers."

2009 Volvo V70
The 2009 Volvo V70 has only a few minor changes from the completely redesigned 2008 model, says contributor Bob McHugh. "The V70 offers a more agile and entertaining drive than an SUV or a crossover vehicle," he says.
